Jennifer Michael
The Rev. Jennifer S. Michael served in her first call as pastor of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Battle Creek, Michigan from 2017-2021. Previous to this call, she served in many lay leadership roles for more than 20 years including serving on church council, synodical boards and she served as Churchwide President of Women of the ELCA from 2011-2014. Her last call was at St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Hendersonville, Tennessee.
A native of Pensacola, Florida, Rev. Michael completed her undergraduate degree in Communications at Kaplan University. She completed her Master of Divinity at Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa. In addition to her current work as a pastor, she enjoys going to live performances and reading pop-fiction, thrillers and mysteries. And when the weather is fine, she often takes her pugs, Raisin and Raspberry, out for walks in the sunshine. Travel is a delight for her and she definitely enjoys meeting new people.
Being from a family of four girls and having parents who fostered a strong image of how women shape our world, her favorite thing to say is that she is one of those women who puts the “G-r-r in GIRL!” Her other current roles in leadership include serving since 2014 on the ELCA Fund for Leaders Leadership Table, as the current Secretary for that same group, and as part of the Southeastern Synod Worship Committee. She is grateful for the support of her mother, Carolyn and her three sisters, Amanda, Lauren and Susannah who keep her grounded. With a very personal witness to a theology of the cross, Rev. Jennifer believes that God has called her as a leader for this church in proclamation, testimony and daily living. She is always committed to living out that call in every possible way so that it might illuminate the power of the Gospel for others.
